Anal manometry is a test that evaluates the strength and sensitivity of the muscles and nerves in the anus and rectum. It is used for patients who are complaining of fecal incontinence, fecal urgency, and severe constipation. It is performed in office and takes approximately 35-45minutes. A catheter with a small balloon attached to the end is inserted into the anus in order to detect the rectal sensation when there is pressure present. Dr. Shakiba then interprets these readings in a thorough consult after the procedure.
