A pessary is a temporary means of relief for patients who are suffering from pelvic organ prolapse who do not wish to undergo surgery. Pessaries come in multiple shapes and sizes, allowing Dr. Shakiba to pick the best-fit one to ensure comfort, yet adequate relief of symptoms. Maintaining a healthy pessary and preventing infections require frequent follow-up attention. Every 2-3 months the pessary is to be removed, cleaned, and re-inserted. Dr. Shakiba performs pessary insertion as well as pessary cleaning and care in office and each visit takes approximately 20 minutes.
